As a current General Principal of St. George’s School in Jerusalem with wide previous experience in the field of education. I have always encouraged my students to participate in every fruitful experience life offers. My experience with MUN (Model United Nations) program started by sending my students to participate in different conferences To which we as a school were invited. I didn’t know much about this program at first, but after having long conversations with the participants, I noticed what a great positive change occurred in their personalities, attitudes towards life, and other stuff: language, debating skills, and public speaking. Without forgetting to mention the healthy friendships with their own peers from Jerusalem and its suburbs. I had this idea in my mind and I’ve mentioned it during many meetings with my English Staff at school. The idea was to establish our own MUN program from scratch and give Jerusalemite youngsters along with my own students the opportunity to take part in this wonderful experience. The idea of SGMUN was born in 2022 when a group of my finest students at school approached me sharing the same idea with a great sense of enthusiasm and as always, I didn’t hesitate a bit to support them with every power and connection I could offer then. The first Conference 2022 was a big success with the efforts of these students and the staff and for sure the Jerusalemite society and friends. The program started to improve and develop with steady and wise steps forward, we now have an official SGMUN team, club, and website. The biggest hardship along with the funding was not the start, but continuing with a greater and bigger success we could achieve. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth all the effort and countless hours of hard work. Here I am proud of this achievement which for the second year has become a part of our school’s identity and is continuing to improve and glow. The second SGMUN 2024 is taking place on August 8. I can’t wait to meet you all with open arms and deepest greetings.
Mr. Richard Zananiri ,General Principal of St. George’s School in Jerusalem
Dear SGMUN participants,
Amid the suffering, and deprivation that our people are facing. What better way is there to spread awareness than providing an academic platform that carries out debates, discussions, as well as possible solutions for the most controversial topics in our current lives? We as a team of Senior students at St. George’s School have been working relentlessly for the last year to materialize such an academic platform. It took a lot of effort on our behalf but “all hard work brings profit” Proverbs 14:23.
It fills me with bliss that finally I, in the name of St. Geroge’s School and the SGMUN team, welcome you all to our second annual SGMUN conference. Our conference this year revolves around the theme ‘Ascertaining the flourishing of Global Security and Equity worldwide’ expecting that this year’s discussion will encompass possible creative solutions for the ongoing inequality, and injustice in this world.
Personally, my Model UN journey commenced in 2021 and has not sputtered ever since, neither will yours, for this program is a bridge to academic success, diplomatic skills, and public speaking. Thus I consider it a strong asset that immensely propels Palestinian youth, which if it does anything urges me even further to endeavor for a fruitful time for all participants in our conference.
Hence, I acutely look forward to the sophisticated arguments, robust solutions, as well as meaningful vehement speeches tarnished by this conference’s exceptional participants. We are waiting for your attendance with open arms and hearts on the 8th of August!!!!
Cheers,
Secretary-General Of SGMUN
